Easiest way to create a task at top of a list?

I'd like to make an API call that creates a new task, putting it first in the INBOX. I don't see a way to do this in one call. What's my best option, here? I guess I could get the tasks in the inbox, and then move the new task before the first one? Is there a single-stroke mechanism?
