Linking time from a user to a task owned by a virtual user in the time sheet view

We are an engineering Development company; we develop products for multiple clients and work on multiple client projects in parallel. An engineer can have 3 to 6 clients at the same time. So he would typically have 3 to 6 projects that each may have 10-50 tasks. To be able to show we are working on these tasks in parallel we found two options. One is to move all the tasks to a priority package prioritize them and limit the number of hours a day each task can be worked on. This is very cumbersome and tedious for the Engineers. The other option is to create virtual users for each project and limit the hours per day each virtual user can work, and the hours the virtual user works can be assigned to the engineer. This would work perfectly except that in the timesheet tab when you add hours to a task owned by a virtual user the task remaining effort does not get updated. So I was wondering if there is any way I can create this link using the API. I have tried all other workarounds with no success any help will be greatly appreciated
